1 September, 2015 Alpha Partners Law Offices announces the departure of Masami Totani Esq. from the firm to practice as a sole practitioner, effective September 1, 2015.
As it has come to our attention that Mr. Totani is practicing under a name very similar to that of our firm, we would like to confirm that there is no ongoing relationship whatsoever between the two firms.

19 April, 2015 Managing Partner, M. Sase has just returned from a study tour of Canada relating to legal professional indemnity insurance, sponsored by the Japan Federation of Bar Associations Legal Access Centre (LAC). During the trip he visited the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, The Federation of Law Societies of Canada, the Barreau du Quebec, law firms and insurance companies.
13 February, 2015 Managing Partner, M. Sase held a lecture for volunteer members of a religious sect assembly in response to an interim opinion issued by a certain religious organization gAh in relation to a problem that has arisen in respect to its affiliated school gBh. The main theme of his lecture was that, irrespective of whether they may be schools or religious bodies, organizations must be operated appropriately and in accordance with applicable law. Reports on the lecture appeared in the Cultural Times (Feb.18, 2015) and the Buddhist Times (Feb. 19, 2015).
30 October, 2014 Hidetaka Sakai Esq. has resigned from the firm to take up the post of Planning and Coordination Officer, Road Transport Policy Planning (with dual responsibility for motor vehicle passenger transportation) in the Ministerfs Secretariat, General Affairs Section, at the Ministry of Land, Transport and Infrastructure. He will be with the firm until the end of October.
18 October, 2014 Managing Partner, M. Sase led a discussion on gThe Specialized Lawyersf Systemh during a joint symposium held by the Japanese Federation of Bar Associations and the Institute of Comparative law in Japan, Chuo University.
1 June, 2014 YasuAki Nakayama, has joined the firm as an associate.
22 April, 2013 A report of the Investigative Commission into Securing Effective Administration in response to Progressive Decentralizationh chaired by Managing Partner M. Sase has been published on the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communicationsf home page under gPublicationsh. The publication was the product of 10 meetings by the Commission which Mr. Sase was appointed chairperson of in March 2012.
8 February, 2013 gThe Law and Practice of Sports Accidentsh (The duty to consider safety and the theory of liability as seen from the case law), written and edited by Managing Partner, Masatoshi Sase with contributions by Associate, Shunji Okamoto, has been published (Publisher: Sokosha, Complied by the Japan Federation of Bar Associations Practice Committee for the promotion of Sports Entertainment Law PT).
26 March, 2012 Saga and Nagasaki Prefectures recently settled a dispute relating to the demarcation of gravel extraction boundaries through the auspices of an ad hoc regional affairs dispute coordination committee appointed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (gMICh) to which Managing Partner, Masatoshi Sase, was appointed in 2010. The dispute was concluded after the assemblies of both prefectures adopted the settlement proposal proposed by the dispute coordination committee. The dispute, which related to gravel extraction permit boundaries between Saga and Nagasaki prefectures was commenced in November 2010 on application to MIC by the Governor of Saga Prefecture. Other members of the dispute coordination committee included Professor Shigeru Takahashi of the Graduate School of Law, Hitotsubashi University, and Professor Ryuji Yamamoto of the University of Tokyo Graduate Schools for Law and Politics.
14 August, 2011 Yun-Ming Tao, Attorney-at-Law who is qualified in the Peoplefs Republic of China, has joined Alpha Partners as a registered foreign attorney in Japan, bringing his long and substantial experience in both corporate and litigation to the firm.
