Yoichi Sato    -Of-Counsel-

Yoichi Sato

I became a judge in 1977 and served as a judge for about 40 years before becoming an attorney at law in 2016.
As a judge, I was mainly in charge of various types of civil-related cases in the first instance (district and family courts) and in the second instance (high courts). In particular, as a presiding judge for more than 10 years in the District Court and High Court, I have learned a great deal through hearing cases of various disputes that arise in all kinds of societies and through being exposed to the realities of those disputes. During my overseas research in the U.S., I learned that "common sense in Japan is not common sense in the rest of the world" as I learned about the various dispute resolution systems in the U.S. I was able to gain a multifaceted perspective.
Through these various practical experiences as a judge, I came into contact with the way of life and way of thinking of many people in the midst of conflicts, and I have renewed my awareness that the human nature of the people involved plays a major role in the root of conflicts.
Based on these experiences, I am now working as an attorney at law to help resolve civil disputes appropriately from the standpoint of the parties involved. In addition to seeking and realizing better solutions to current disputes, I also analyze and examine the various factors that have caused such disputes and propose preventive measures to prevent more serious disputes from arising in the future.
